The Isle of Sheppey has two train stations but there used to also be a line crossing the island all the way to Leysdown.
This addition to the series, I only really noticed after I submitted the whole rest of the series, and have been meaning to ever since add this to the group.
The SideTracked series on the Isle of Sheppey are…
Queenborough
Sheerness
plus REALLY SideTracked ones…
Queenborough Pier
Sheerness East
East Minster-On-Sea
Minster-On-Sea
Brambledown Halt
Eastchurch
Harty Road Halt
Leysdown
will you be able to find them all?
This was the original station for Sheerness, but as the station was located some half a mile from the town centre the station life was short-lived. A half mile extension was made to a more convenient site for passengers with the opening of Sheerness-on-Sea Station on 1st June 1883. This station was then renamed Sheerness Dockyard, and service continued to both stations. Trains were required to reverse along the extension from here to Sheerness-On-Sea.
