Today, management is aimed at maintaining areas of open grassland and pavement. Cattle have a vital role to play in helping maintain the rich diversity of flowering plants. Coppicing takes place in the wooded area of Lancelot Clark Storth to provide breeding habitat for these species. In the top of the Reserve here you will see a solar powered bore hole providing water for the cattle. The bore hole is about 180m deep!
One of the Athurian legends concerns Sir Ywain a distant cousin of Sir Gawain and part of the story involves something called the storm stone. A magical stone that, when water is poured on it, summons up a ferocious storm. Ywain summons a storm by accident, fights the guardian who appears, defeats him and becomes the guardian of the stone himself. So while you're finding the cache don't, whatever you do, pour any water on the stone or you might have a terrible storm and Sir Ywain to deal with!
Directions: From the trig point, head west and bare right on a small path to the gate and then head for the cache.
