Before May 2000 it was impossible to accurately pinpoint your location using a gps. This was due to Selective Availability which scrambled all civilian GPS signals. Fortunately this all changed at around 12:00am on 2 May 2000 when selective availability was switched off. This led to the placement of what would be the first ever Geocache on 3 May 2000 and the start of Geocaching!
