Geocache Description:

An event to celebrate Geocaching's 15th birthday.

It is also 5000 days since the first geocache was published in Kwazulu Natal.
(well - actually 5002)

EVENT DETAILS

  • Venue:  The Firkin Brewery, Roof Level, Pavilion Shopping Centre.
  • Date:  Sunday 3 May 2015
  • Time:  15h00 - 19h00

The very first geocache (GCF - The Original Stash) was placed by Dave Ulmer on 3 May 2000.  Today marks 15 years since then - and also celebrates the more than 2.5 Million geocaches that are active today.

The very first geocache in Kwazulu Natal (GC186B - Durban's Botanical View) was placed by Artful Dodger on 22 August 2001.  5000 days since then was on 1 May 2015, so this is a good time to also celebrate that cache placing.  Since then 3420 caches (and events) have been placed in KZN, and today 2244 are still active.

The current oldest active caches in KZN are GC7551 -  Bivane Dam (24 July 2002) and GCGTQ1 - Windy Corner (1 Sept 2003).

Groundspeak will be issuing a special 15-year souvenir to the profiles of those who attend this event.

Please bring along your trackables for discovery.

All expenses for attendee's own account.

Please log your "Will Attend" as soon as possible, together with the number attending so that the correct number of tables can be booked.
