Geocache Description:

Did you know that the Trinity River has flooded past its banks as recently as 1990? That’s right, in May 1990 the golf course you can see directly across the river was underwater! At TRWD we do more than create fun geocaching adventure to promote recreation along the Trinity Trails; we’re also responsible for water supply and flood protection. That means we get to manage an extensive flood control system in Tarrant County. Featuring more than 27 miles of floodway levees designed by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, this system provides vital flood protection to area residents along the West and Clear Forks of the Trinity River. During heavy rainfall events, a team of TRWD engineers uses a network of stream gauges to monitor and analyze river and stream flows. Our engineers’ experience and expertise in such situations helps minimize the impact of heavy rainfall on the river and surrounding areas. They also work closely with other organizations, such as the National Weather Service, to gather data and provide information to the public during emergency situations.

This geocache is a part of the TRWD Trinity Trails Geocaching Adventure which takes you on a journey throughout the entire trail system to discover hidden gems, historically significant locations and some of the most popular spots along the trails. It’s perfect for families, geocaching newbies and seasoned “cachers” alike.
