Geocache Description:

Peterborough is part of the Shipwreck Coast where as many as 700 ships have been wrecked due to limestone cliffs eroding away and leaving many patches of harder rock concealed just under the waves quite a distance out to sea. Less than a third of the wrecks have ever been found.

But not all threats come from the sea. Bushfires and fast moving grass fires are a risk over Summer and into Autumn, particularly the coastal scrub along the beach to south of town.

This parkland area is a designated Neighbourhood Safer Place. The Places of Last Resort were established in a number of high risk locations following the Black Saturday Royal Commission, to provide a place to shelter during a fire front when all other plans have failed.
