La Certosa del Galluzzo è situata sulla sommità di un colle di forma conica detto Monte Acuto o anche “Monte Santo”.
Il complesso monastico fu voluto da Niccolò Acciaioli (1310-1365), personaggio di spicco dell’ambiente politico ed economico trecentesco. Appartenente ad una delle famiglie di banchieri più ricche di Firenze, raggiunse l’apice del potere nel Regno di Napoli, presso la corte angioina.
Alla fine del 1341 Niccolò si recò a Firenze per una missione diplomatica affidatagli da Re Roberto d’Angiò. Fu durante questo soggiorno che fu stilata la carta di donazione delle terre su cui doveva sorgere il monastero e le rendite necessarie sia per la costruzione del complesso che per la sopravvivenza dei monaci. Il documento fu redatto l’8 febbraio 1342.
Il monastero si distingue dalle certose costruite fino a questo periodo per la sua posizione, particolarmente vicina alla città. Il luogo fu scelto perché la posizione elevata del monastero e la presenza ai piedi della collina dei due torrenti, la Greve e l’Ema, garantivano l’isolamento necessario alle regole di vita della comunità certosina. Inoltre, visto che dalla cima della collina si dominavano le vallate circostanti, era un luogo ideale anche dal punto di vista difensivo. La conformazione geologica del colle permise infine che il materiale necessario alla costruzione dell’opera fosse cavato direttamente in loco.
Nel Rinascimento il complesso venne profondamente rivisitato e arricchito di opere d'arte.
Alla fine degli anni 50 ai monaci Certosini si sostituirono i Cistercensi e da allora il monastero è diventato un po' più accessibile al mondo esterno e agli amanti della cultura e dell’arte... ma è dal 2017 che, col passaggio alla gestione della comunità di San Leolino, la Certosa sta diventando sempre più spesso sede di eventi importanti.
Il complesso è visitabile in giorni e ad orari precisi. Controllate sul sito ufficiale. Entrare nel monastero NON è necessario per raggiungere la cache.

Florence Charterhouse is situated on the top of a hill called Monte Acuto or "Holy Mountain".
The monastery was built by Niccolò Acciaioli (1310-1365), a leading figure in the political and economic fourteenth century. Belonging to one of the richest banking families of Florence. He reached the pinnacle of power in the Kingdom of Naples, at the Angevin court.
At the end of 1341 Niccolò went to Florence for a diplomatic mission entrusted to him by King Robert of Anjou. It was during this stay that was written the document whit the donation of the land on which the monastery was to be built and the revenues necessary for both the construction of the complex for the survival of the monks. The monastery stands out from the monasteries built up to this time for its location, very close to the city. The site was chosen because the elevated position of the monastery and the presence at the foot of the hill of the two streams, the Greve and Ema, ensured the isolation necessary to the rules of life of the Carthusian community. Also, since the top of the hill dominating the surrounding valleys, was an ideal place from the defensive point of view. The geological structure of the hill allowed that all the material necessary for the construction work was quarried on site.
In the Renaissance, the complex was deeply revisited and enriched with works of art.
In the late 50th to the Carthusian monks were replaced by the Cistercian monks and the monastery has become more accessible to the outside world and to lovers of culture and art... but it is from 2017 that, with the transition to the management of the community of San Leolino, the Certosa is increasingly becoming the site of important events.
