Geocache Description:

This three stage multi-cache in Colt State Park will bring you a nice walk along mostly level ground to two memorials located in the park as well as a final cache. While you can park closer to each stage, it is recommended you park in the lot near the posted coordinates and walk to the second memorial and final. If you do choose to park closer, make sure to park in a legal spot as parking is strictly enforced in the park.

This multi-cache will require you to visit both memorials, one at the posted coordinates (stage 1), and the other at the coordinates listed below (stage 2). While they can be visited in either order, it is recommended you begin at the posted coordinates and make your way over to stage 2. You can find the final cache using the below formula and providing a simple number substitution for the letters.

North 41° 40.TUV West 071° 17.XYZ

Stage 1:

This plaque was dedicated on August 2V, 19Z8

Stage 2: (Note: use the monument to locate this information as it seems to be different from some online sources!)

John Chaffee was:

  • Governor of Rhode Island until 196X
  • Secretary of the Navy until 19U2
  • United States Senator starting in 19T7 until his death in 199Y

Once you have determined the final coordinates, you're looking for a standard black micro and will need to bring your own writing utensil. The cache is NOT IN THE STONE WALL, so do not look there and of course, do not dismantle any part of the wall at all. It is located at the base of the wall in front, under a small rock that was not part of the wall previously. Please replace the cache as you found it. Hope you enjoy!

If you need to, you can check your coordinates here: GeoChecker.com.
