Geocache Description:

Langamull Forest crosses the Dervaig to Calgary road, covering a wide range of habitats and walks. Head through the forest here to see lovely views and find some patches of native woodland. The beach of Langamull is nearby too.

You have two parking options for this cache. One with more of a walk at West Ardhu forest entrance near Dervaig and the other closer car park situated just off the Dervaig -Calgary road for Langamull forest and beach.

The walk is all on forest tracks, although these can be muddy in areas due to harvesting operations.

Despite large areas of non-native sitka spruce, you'll see remnants of our native woodlands, with silver birch, hazel, ash and oak trees. Look out for rare species of lichen and moss that are only found in West Scotland. Some trees were historically coppiced. Coppicing is a good woodland management tool and often improves habitat for butterflies and other insects by creating sunny glades. It can also increase the lifespan of a tree, a tree could continue living well past it's regular age if if was coppiced regularly. Look out for some impressive silver birch coppiced trees by the burn.

After finding the cache you could take a visit to Langamull beach too, although this involves more walking. It is well worth it though and great spot to view the hebridean sunsets.
