Ribeira Grande é um município na parte norte da ilha de São Miguel em Português Azores. A população em 2011 foi de 32.112, em uma área de 180,15 km.
A CASA DO ARCANJO
A Casa do Arcanjo integra conjunto de valências que constituem o Núcleo Museológico da Ribeira Grande – estrutura patrimonial polinucleada que, desde 1986, estuda, conserva e explica à comunidade o espaço e o tempo no concelho da Ribeira Grande, desde a sua formação e evolução geológica, passando pelas suas vertentes histórica, geográfica, antropológica e sociológica, até ao presente.
A Casa
A Casa do Arcanjo é um espaço onde se propõe revelar o testemunho da vida e obra de madre Margarida, motivo pelo qual se mantiveram inalterados alguns dos seus espaços (como a cozinha) e se procurou salvaguardar, o mais possível, as alvenarias e tetos, permitindo o conhecimento de uma cidade de outrora.
O Arcanjo Místico
Obra de profunda finura artística, a mesma poderá revelar as características da personalidade da sua autora: serenidade, firmeza, inteligência e racionalidade.
No seu testamento, escrito em 1854, a autora explica o Arcanjo Místico como sendo o que «contem os Mistérios mais importantes da Antigo e novo Testamento, que compreende as três Leys que o senhor Deus deu ao Mundo para que por figuras melhor pudéssemos entender o dever, a que estamos obrigados, e a escolha que devemos fazer da Ley da Graça que por Graça nos foi dada».
Os vários quadros, dispostos nos três pisos do móvel/expositor, são compostos por figurinhas, todas elas moldadas à mão e formadas por vários materiais, tais como farinha de arroz, gelatina animal, goma-arábica e vidro moído.
De acordo com o Tributo de Gratidão, escrito por José Maria da Câmara Vasconcelos, cunhado do seu irmão, vindo no jornal A União do mês de Dezembro de 1858, a autora ambicionava alcançar um triplo propósito: louvar a Deus, entreter e ensinar catequese.
EMIGRAÇÃO AÇORIANA
Durante os anos 1990, alguns emigrantes pediram à Câmara Municipal da Ribeira Grande que fizesse algo onde se pudesse demonstrar a história das comunidades açorianas e da emigração açoriana. Durante estes anos a ideia foi-se apurando até chegar ao ano de 2005.
A 9 de Setembro de 2005 inaugurou-se o Museu da Emigração Açoriana, nas antigas instalações do Barracão de Peixe, com a exposição "Os Cabral de Mello, New Bedford 1890-1930" sob a responsabilidade do Dr. José de Mello.
Licor
Com cada vez mais admiradores do outro lado do Atlântico, na Ribeira Grande, Ilha de São Miguel, encontra-se a génese dos sabores licorosos dos Açores. Descubra-o nas provas, mas também nas plantações infindáveis...
Continuando o passeio temos oportunidade de provar os vários licores ali confecionados, a saber: o famoso Licor de Maracujá, o mais conhecido na nossa região mas também nos EUA e no Canadá; licores de Ananás, Amora, Banana, assim como o Brandy de Maracujá, que é feito da mistura de licor de maracujá com brandy caseiro. Mas há também o muito apreciado Vinho Abafado e o Licor de Anis.
Entre os licores mais recentes e que também podemos saborear temos o “Cappuccino”, à base de natas, denominado “Queen of the Island”, e ainda a aguardente “Velhíssima”.
Ao percorrer-se a exposição e a prova de licores nota-se algo característico daquela estrutura: as garrafas figurativas, que fazem alusão aos monumentos, figuras, trajes e festividades da nossa região e que formam um painel multicolor, que dá vida a uma sala cheia de pipas em casco de carvalho. Estas garrafas representam a “Mulher de Capote”, que dá nome à fábrica, “O Homem de Capote”, o “Emigrante”, a “Torre da Matriz” de Ponta Delgada, o “Farol” o “Milhafre”, as “Cavalhadas”, entre outras.
