Geocache Description:

An off-set multi.

The little church of St. Blaise was built in 1233 by Sir Stephen de Haccombe on his return from the Fifth Crusade. He gave it the name of St. Blaise, a 4th-century Armenian Bishop and Martyr whose fame he had encountered in the East. It is now a Grade 1 listed building.

The church was enlarged in the 14th centuary and was consecrated by Bishop Grandisson in 1328. The east end fittings of circa 1820 are by John Kendall, the architect to Exeter Cathedral and restoration was underway in 1861. The 2 repaired recumbent effigies on a much renewed double chest tomb in the church are thought to be Sir Hugh Courtenay, died 1425, and Philippa, his wife. There are also brasses of the Carew family.

Unfortunately the church is not open, but arrangements can be made to view it by contacting the church warden and volunteers open it every Wednesday afternoon.

At the headline co-ordinates is the grave of Henry Palk Carew and his wife. You need to work out the following to get the final co-ordinates:-

A = The number Baronet he was.

BC = The last 2 numbers of the year he was born.

DE = The day he died.

F = The number of lines in text at the bottom.

G = The third number of the year his widow was born.

H = The number of words in the text under his widows information.

The final co-ordinates are N50 3E.(A-B)(H+D)(A-F) W003 3F.(F-C)(G+E)(B+C).

The checksum for A - H is 33.
