Geocache Description:

This cache used to be part of the Royal Deesiders Geotour. The Geotour has now finished but the cache is now part of GCUK's Old Pines Trail

The Old Pines Trail takes you to the heart of Glen Tanar's magnificent forest and you are never far from the sparkling Water of Tanar. The path consists of a mixture of grass surfaces and crushed stone. The route is waymarked - follow the Pine Cone symbol on the waymarkers.

Please take note of any warning and information signs that the Ranger Service and the Estate have displayed.

The recommended starting point is from the Glen Tanar Visitor Centre. There is a 'pay and display' car park clearly signposted. These caches have been placed by agreement with Glen Tanar.

In the early 19th century a hamlet of woodcutter’s houses was established near here. Today these buildings have long since gone, the woodcutters houses would have been made from timber as it was readily available and this was a material the woodcutters were familiar with working with. There are remains of a stone built building beside the track and also the remains of the piers that supported the black ship bridge built to connect the communities on both side of the Water of Tanar. The remains of both these structures are now unsafe and you should keep clear of them.
