Geocache Description:

This cache used to be part of the Royal Deesiders Geotour. The Geotour has now finished and the cache is now part of GCUK's Old Pines Trail

The Old Pines Trail takes you to the heart of Glen Tanar's magnificent forest and you are never far from the sparkling Water of Tanar. The path consists of a mixture of grass surfaces and crushed stone. The route is waymarked - follow the Pine Cone symbol on the waymarkers.

Please take note of any warning and information signs that the Ranger Service and the Estate have displayed.

The recommended starting point is from the Glen Tanar Visitor Centre. There is a 'pay and display' car park clearly signposted. These caches have been placed by agreement with Glen Tanar.

There is extensive forest in Glen Tanar and as you walk along this track you will see widespread areas of Scots Pine On Monday 14th June 1920 there was major forest fire which swept through Glen Tanar and burnt until 24th June destroying some 2,000 acres of trees.  Winter storms have also caused much damage, especially on 31st January 1953, when many trees were blown down.  The timber was still available to harvest, but took months to extract.

When I was placing this cache I heard a woodpecker busy tapping away in a nearby tree.
