Geocache Description:

Here is a replacement to a previous SideTracked. The cache is along a footpath which travels under Newington Station.

Here is a quick cache for you to find near to Newington train station.

Trains stop here once an hour in each direction, so if you are stopping half way on your journey you will have plenty of time to come and find the cache.

The cache is a magnetic one, and is along the footpath which goes through the tunnel under the railway.

It is not in the tunnel. But it is located just a few metres from the end of the platform, however, you will need to look up about 10 metres above you to see it!

Do not attempt to get to the cache from the platform. Exit the station and follow the roads, Station road, onto High street, and along to Wickham Close, around to the trailhead marker. (about 600m, less than 1/2 mile!)

Stolen from previous cache description... (Sure Frankie_4711 won't mind! x)

The railway line between Chatham and Faversham was opened on 25 January 1858 by the East Kent Railway Company, which became the London, Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR) the following year. The station at Newington was opened by the LCDR on 1 August 1862.

The station is 41 miles 42 chains (66.8 km) from London Victoria (measured via Herne Hill). Most of the line between Swanley and Dover has two tracks, but there are four tracks from a point about half a mile east of Rainham to 41 miles 52 chains (67.0 km), at the eastern end of Newington station. The outermost two tracks are designated the "loop" lines, and the innermost two are the "main" lines. At Newington, there are two platforms, one on each of the "loop" lines; these are capable of accepting 12 car trains.
