GEOCACHING 101
For people who have never geocached or for those of you that have started not too long ago we have excellent courses, designed just for you! From finding caches to hiding your first cache, we want to help you to become the best geocachers out there. Please come prepared for the weather as most of these courses take place outdoors.
Finding a Geocache 9:30 AM to 12:00 (Noon)
Veteran geocaching teacher Cuddlefish will explain the basics of geocaching, and then with the help of Retro and Rescue Penguin you will break into groups (by which devices you have) to find real world example geocaches. No matter which device you use (Iphone, Android or a GPSr unit), we will have knowledgeable geocachers on hand to help you. The experience is designed to enhance your skills in the fine art of finding a geocache.
Weather depending, Iron Maiden will have a hot chocolate station set up to help you be warm. If you could bring your own mug/cup it would be a great help.
Lunch Break Noon to 1:00 PM
At noon we will break for lunch. Pack a picnic lunch or leave the event to grab something. It is your choice, but please be back on time for the afternoon classes. During the lunch break we might have some extra activities for you to enjoy.
Hiding your first cache 1:00 PM to 2:00
Join Catapult Jeff as he teaches you the ins and outs of hiding a geocache. Important topics will be the official Rules and Regs, and Geocaching Reviewer Wiz of Ooze's "Top Reasons for Rejecting a Cache" as well as the ever-important consideration "Why do you want to bring some one to this spot?" You will laugh and play "Good Container, Bad Container" and just maybe you will win a prize along the way.
The Extra Special Things 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
We will wind things up by going inside and learn about the extra things that can make geocaching more than just finding a cache. Catapult Jeff will be joined by international video blogger and co-host of "Caching in the Northwest" podcast "Mr LANMonkey" as we cover events, CITOs, travel bugs, challenges and the gamification of geocaching.
BUT WAIT!!!!!! GEOCACHING 102
We also have something for those experienced geocachers - yes you! You asked and we were able to deliver. Let's enhance your geocaching experience and prowess also.
GSAK 10:00 AM to 12:00 (Noon)
Come at 10:00 am as KNL_caching walks you through the Geocaching Swiss Army Knife (GSAK) application. If you have never used it here is your chance to learn about.
12:00 to 1:00 PM LUNCH BREAK
1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Learn about Open Street Maps and how to use them with your GPSr from TeamK1W1. He will walk you through them and help answer your questions.
If you are not up for any of these sessions come for the lunch break and mingle. Think of it as a Noon time meet and greet!
The whole day is up to you. Come for one session or stay the whole day. Either way we would love to see you.
AND AGAIN A HUGE THANK YOU TO SURREY PARKS FOR SPONSORING THIS EVENT!!!!!!!
