Join us for a day on the beautiful Mersea Island, the most easterly inhabited island in the UK. The island is most famous for its oysters, but it's also rich in history with influences going back to the Celtic times. It also includes one of the few moated churches in the country, St Edmund, King and Martyr church. The area is believed to be the camp of the Viking Hasten who spent two winters on the island. Mersea Island is also the only place in the east of England where red squirrels are living wild after locals started a project to reintroduce them. So keep your eyes peeled and you may spot one during your visit!
Our Mersea Day event is being held at Cudmore Grove Country Park on the East side of the island. At the event we will be releasing a variety of cache for a Mersea Icon challenge. While visiting you will be able to bag a letterbox, multi cache, wherigo cache, traditional cache, earthcache, puzzle cache, virtual cache, event and a CITO which will allow you to find the final challenge cache and earn a shiny reward for all of your hard work!
There is a small parking fee for parking at Cudmore Grove Country Park. If you will be attending several of the events during Mega Week hosted in Essex Country Parks (Rocky Ride Extreme, Glaciers and Gruffalos, The Highwayman's Horror, Mersea Day, Cudmore Grove CITO) you can save money for purchasing a car parking ticket for just £10 which is valid for the whole of Mega Week.
