This is part of a Pi Day multi-event. Many event caches have been arranged on the same day across South Africa and the globe. This event cache is to take place at 9:26 in the morning. The relevance is that the number Pi (3.141592653) is represented by the date and time - March 14, 2015, 9:26.
Pi, a Greek letter, also spelled "p" has been the representation of an infinite number we all come to know as 3.14 or the ratio of the circumference of the circle to its diameter. First used in the 18th century, we continue to use it today.
In the year 2015, Pi Day will have special significance on 3/14/15 at 9:26:53 a.m. and p.m., with the date and time representing the first 10 digits of p. That same second will also contain a precise instant corresponding to all of the digits of p. However, some argue that 9:26:54 a.m. and p.m. on 3/14/15 are more accurate because of the 11th digit of p being 5, which would cause the 10th digit to round up to 4.
Come and join us at The Deck, Gonubie Hotel for breakfast and to celebrate this one in a lifetime event. We will start to gather from 09:00, take a group photo on exactly 09:26:53 (or as close as we can to the time) and disperse whenever we want to.
Place: The Deck, Gonubie Hotel.
Date: 2015/03/14.
Time: 09:00 until 11:00.
Please log a "Will attend" to establish numbers for table reservations by 10th.
