Geocache Description:

This is not a straightforward Church Micro, nor is it a straightforward Wherigo but a Reverse cache Wherigo.

Please only attempt this cache during day light hours, it is a quiet village with no street lights.

IMPORTANT!
To prevent a wasted journey, be sure to download the latest version of the cartridge before attempting this Wherigo or at least test before leaving home.

The church – St James:
The church of St James’ Clapton on the Hill is situated 3 miles south of Bourton on the Water overlooking the Windrush valley. The village has a population of about 100 and the church is the only public building. The church dates from the 11th century and is technically a chapelry of St Lawrence’s in Bourton. It is one of the smallest churches in Gloucestershire and seats only 45 people comfortably.

The church is well known for its 13th century inscription carved onto the northern part of the Chancel arch. In the 17th century there was a move to pull down the church but the local parishioners appealed to the Archbishop of Canterbury. Although no record of the reply is known, the church is still flourishing.

About Wherigo Reverse Caches:
Wherigo Reverse Caches were inspired by the original Reverse Geocache Puzzle Box:

The cartridge for the Wherigo version was developed by -Waldmeister- and has been re-used in many difference caches.

The three six-digit numbers to activate the cartridge are usually given on the cache page but this is a Church Micro, so you need to visit the church to complete the numbers. It is a Church Micro after all!

About this cache:
To find the cache you will need to download this Wherigo cartridge to a compatible device.

This cartridge will tell you how far it is to the final location but not the direction - you will have to work that out for yourself.

But - in order to activate it you need to enter three 6-digit numbers.

Go to the published co-ordinates where you will see a massive boulder, with four large words carved in it. Using the standard letters to numbers conversion A=1, B=2, C=3, etc, what are the numerical values of:

A= the third letter
B= the ninth letter
C= the sixth letter
D= the seventh letter

Adding the values of A to D, the checksum is: 17

Now you can complete the numerical codes:
B783AA
5CA60D
60DD30

The Wherigo cartridge can be restarted at any time; you just need to have the codes to hand. The route can be muddy, there are a few springs that start on the hill.

When you reach the final, you will be given some statistics. This is optional but for a bit of fun, could you please include into your log, how many stars you got. Additionally, you will get a personal password which you can enter into the Code Generator if you select "create" instead of "play" at the start of the cartridge. Save this; then if you want to, you can build your own reverse cache where ever you want in the world - just tell -Waldmeister- about your plans!

Please do not write any hints into your log about how and where you found the cache or post photos that might give the final location away.
