Run Maple, Run! Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

badbrad34480: Hi badbrad34480,

Greetings from Geocaching HQ. We are contacting you about a problem with a very large series of caches you placed in the East Silver Springs Shores area. I believe you are already aware there is an issue because one of the residents has been posting threatening logs like this one on some of the caches: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=75897bb0-6ada-437d-a0b0-b72b18d5b32c We are getting reports of additional problems from a number of geocachers visiting the area:
•Residents are photographing geocacher vehicles, presumably to get the license plate number
•At least one geocacher has been confronted by one of the residents and threatened with a gun.

It is very clear that the residents do not want this very large series of geocaches in their neighborhood, and it is time to wave the white flag. When residents take this kind of action, it is not a battle you can win - they will continue to steal the caches and harass the people that try to find them, call the police and sometimes even involve the media. When geocachers are threatened by a resident with a gun, the only thing we can responsibly do is to archive the caches that are causing the trouble. Most, if not all, of the geocaches in this area are yours, and I'd like to give you the opportunity to archive them yourself over the weekend so that you can have some control over the issue. Otherwise, we will have to archive them all together from HQ on Monday.

There are more than 230 caches in the trouble zone, roughly between your cache Welcome To The North End Of ESSS (GC5P6QA) on the North, the Ocklawaha River on the east, Malauka Maple Stash (GC5N6BJ) on the South, and The Pines Of Bay Drive (GC5P6PD) on the West, essentially the entire neighborhood. I'm sorry this has to be done, but I ask you to please cooperate with us on this. I will check the area again on Monday and see where we need to go from there. We will be blocking the area off for future cache placements so there will be no further trouble with the residents.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Kind Regards,

Cathy Hornback
