Geocache Description:

It's "Hello" & "Goodbye" to Stanley for M/V Ushuaia on 25th February so it's going to be a hectic 12 or 13 hours. Just time to hold a very quick event for any geocachers who happen to be in town today. I think we're due to sail just a couple of hours later

M/V Ushuaia is due to visit the Falkand Islands on Wednesday 25th February because a major part of its "South 2015: A Voyage to Remember" cruise, organised in conjunction with the British Antarctic Monument Trust, is to witness the dedication of the southern part of the Antarctic Monument which has been erected on Dockyard Point.   This monument lists the names of those scientists, surveyors and other personnel, working for FIDS / BAS who died in the course of their work in the Antarctic and who never returned home to Britain,

The dedication is scheduled to take place at 1700 hrs and will be followed by a reception in the Falkland Islands Museum nearby where a plaque will be presented.

There will be around 90 passengers, including lots of Fids (i.e. people who used to work for the British Antarctic Survey) plus the 35 crew of our vessel and I believe there will also be a very large cruise ship the "Ruby Princess" with 3000 tourists on board in Stanley on the same day, not forgetting a few geocachers local to the islands.

It is anticipated that this very quick "Meet, Greet & Flash your GPS Event" will take place immediately after the end of the dedication when there should be 10 - 15 minutes to sign a log sheet & pick up an Argentinian sweet to eat.  After swopping geocoin numbers and names and a few photos everyone will be free to go their separate ways.

Hope the weather is good as the next part of our voyage is across the "Furious Fifties' to South Georgia!
