Geocache Description:

Easy to find Cache. A Small/Medium Carved Bowl marked "Geocache" hidden among the carving (can fit tractable/bugs. Be gentle when retrieving the cache so as not to damage anything!

The Cache is hidden in the Craft Village. A stall owner “Mayor” (Nick Name) has given me permission to put it there and will help me look after it. Please note, there is no payment to get into the markets or obligation to buy anything, but note that local stall owners will try to convince you to buy items, however this is part of a “Market” experience and buying anything in markets or on the street is at your discretion. Mayor is a friendly local who may help you if you are struggling to find the cache, but you will need to try and do this on your own. The village/market is informal structures and some poles may be low so don't bump your head.

Please note, this particular market is registered and licensed, therefore you know that there is a fair amount of control of where the wood for example comes from. Your hotel or guides can help you locate markets.

Victoria Falls is one of Africa’s most renowned destinations to find quality African arts and crafts.  From fruit/table bowels to wall masks and hangings to the most exquisitely carved animals, their crafts show off some incredible talent that you do not see very often.

Much attention to detail can be seen in the antiquate carving that you can find in one of several “Craft Villages” around the town of Victoria Falls. Various local materials are used to produce these incredible pieces of art.

Wood: Teak, Iron Wood and Mukwa are three well known, some would say Famous hard woods from in Zimbabwe. The local artists have turned pieces of these woods types into beautiful crafted designs. The amazing colour variations in the wood work well for making great carving such as Giraffe’s, Hippos, Elephants and others. Wall hanging at some of the most popular crafts that are showcased.

Stone: Basalt Rocks (lining the gorges of the Victoria Falls) is commonly used in many of the pieces, rick dark colours work well to create some of the Africa’s big animals including the big five. Soap and Green Stone offer some other exciting colour variations that our artists create many various pieces.

Seeds/Beads: Africa offers such a variety of flora that it produces amazing selection of seeds and beads. And as you can imagine, the talented craftsmen of the area can turn these into a delightful range of African jewellery.

The Art of Negotiation: When shopping in these Craft Villages, one should expect a bit of coercion into making a purchase however, obviously there is no obligation to do so. If you are looking for such arts and craft great deals and bargains can be found depending on your negotiation skills. Please visit one of these markets and have a true African Market Experience.

Thank you to Mafushwa for help in creating this Cache.
