A SOS Puzzle (AKA Solve on Site or "field" puzzle) is a puzzle you have to solve AT THE PHYSICAL SITE or in the field. These types of puzzles are sometimes released as multi-caches so make sure you read the description of all caches before looking for cooridnate strips in a cemetery. This is a super simple field puzzle w/ the final cache within walking distance away.
This is the attribute associated w/ these types of puzzles
This SOS puzzle is located at the Theisen House. Oral history tells us the John Theisen House was erected in 1857, and actually the structure is present at this location in the 1859 County Atlas. The land was originally patented by a William Cummins in the 1830’s. Records show John Theisen owned the tract and the house by 1859.
The Theisen House is a good example of the solid vernacular dwelling erected by prosperous farmers in southeastern Michigan in the third quarter of the 19th century. It illustrates a more cultivated taste toward Italianate style in its window treatment. Two out-buildings, a "carriage" shed, plus a summer-kitchen circa 1900, are still intact on the property.
The cache is not at the posted coordinates but it's the start to this field puzzle:
At the posted coords you will find the
Theisen House - find the address to solve this simple puzzle.
Call the address "ABCDE" (so if the address is 12345 then A=1, B=2, etc)
A B C D E
The FINAL PHYSICAL CONTAINER is at:
N 42° 28. (A+A+B+C) (B+C) (B+C+D+E) W 083° 00. (A+B) (C+E) (A+E)
Just replace the letters w/ the numbers in the address and simple addition will give you the coords to the cache!
(See puzzles aren't THAT bad - lol)
Disclaimer: THERE IS NO NEED TO ENTER PRIVATE PROPERTY TO SOLVE THE PUZZLE OR FIND THE FINAL - IF YOUR COORDINATES TAKE YOU TO A PRIVATE HOUSE... YOU ARE WRONG & NEED TO RE-CHECK YOUR WORK!
UPDATE (8/20/15) - Thank you Tonybrost and Brummelbear for aiding in the relocation of this cache since they bulldozed the entire old hiding location. The puzzle and hint has been updated to reflect the new hide.
