On Sunday May 22nd 2011 a catastrophic EF5 tornado struck Joplin late in the afternoon killing 161 individuals and costing approximatly $2.8 billion. This particular tornado in 38 minutes reached a maximum width of nearly 1 mile durring its overall path of 22.1 miles.
KZRG was the station on the air with live storm coverage before, during and after the May 22nd Tornado that claimed 161 lives. The third most deadly tornado in American history. The station's of Zimmer Radio lead by KZRG were on the air around the clock for 9 consecutive days with wall to wall storm recovery information.
Durring those nine days the first two days were nonstop coverage giving information about Emergency services or the lack of. They accepted calls trying to reunite family and broadcasting information for those affected as to where supplies and help could be found.
They has suspended regular programming to help the community make sense of what had happened and help as much as they could. They were constantly broadcasting places for volunteers to meet and donations to be taken, while coordinating with all of the groups that had shown up.
The first couple of weeks following the tornado was pure chaos of rescue and locating of items. They were seen by the community as a HUGE help in starting the rescue, restoring and rebuilding of this city.
This cache is a bit more tricky than the rest, due to the very busy location of the area. Please be respectful of the property as this cache has taken a lot of work to build and acquire permission. Please be sure to place the cache back as you discovered it so that it may me discovered by others. Cache location may be unavailable at times due to community car washes being held nearby , so be aware of muggles.
