Geocaching na Biblioteca Mystery Cache

PT - Entre os diferentes equipamentos culturais de uma localidade, as bibliotecas Públicas desempenharam, desde o século XVIII, um relevante papel de cariz educativo e civilizacional. Abertas para servir um público vasto e diversificado, estas instituições, que se multiplicaram em Portugal ao longo do século XIX, tornaram-se importantes símbolos do progresso sociocultural e urbano mesmo quando enfrentavam dificuldades orçamentais ou logísticas. Foi o caso da Biblioteca Pública de Ponta Delgada que, tendo sido fundada em 1841, só foi inaugurada cinco anos depois. Os seus responsáveis lutaram com inúmeras vicissitudes, as quais, lograram paulatinamente

ultrapassar, permitindo a manutenção do seu funcionamento até aos nossos dias. Através do geocaching, pretende-se dar um pequeno contributo para o conhecimento da Biblioteca Pública de Ponta Delgada, considerando o seu funcionamento enquanto instituição e o seu desempenho a nível cultural e social.

EN - Between the different cultural facilities of a village, public libraries have played, since the 18th century, a relevant role of educational and civilizing nature. Open to serve a broad and diverse audience, these institutions, which have multiplied in Portugal throughout the 19th century, became important symbols of cultural and urban progress even when faced budgetary or logistics difficulties. This was the case of the public library of Ponta Delgada that having been founded in 1841, it was only inaugurated five years later. Responsible fought with numerous problems, however, managed to gradually overcome, allowing the maintenance of this institution until the present day. Geocaching is intended to give some notes about the public library and archive of Ponta Delgada, considering its functioning as an institution and its cultural and social level performance.

PT - A Biblioteca Pública e Arquivo Regional de Ponta Delgada é uma instituição cultural, publica, sita na cidade de Ponta Delgada, Açores, que conjuga as vertentes de biblioteca e de arquivo para depósito da documentação oficial e particular referente às ilhas de São Miguel e de Santa Maria. Está instalada no edifício do antigo Colégio dos Jesuítas de Ponta Delgada, edifício do século XVII/XVIII que foi objeto de restauro e adaptação, cuja inauguração ocorreu a 21 de setembro de 2001. Nos seus objetivos e missão funciona também como um centro cultural, contando com diversos serviços e estruturas, incluindo um auditório, à disposição de quem a procura.

EN - The Public Library and Regional Archive of Ponta Delgada is a State-run cultural institution located in the city of Ponta Delgada, Azores, which combines the aspects of public library and public file for deposit of official and private documentation of the islands of São Miguel and Santa Maria. Is installed on the former Jesuit College of Ponta Delgada, functioning as a cultural center, having a Auditorium and those who demand.

PT - Esta instituição é considerada como uma das mais importantes a nível nacional, com uma diversidade de fundos e coleções, com destaque para os Fundos de José do Canto, Ernesto do Canto, Eugénio do Canto, Manuel Monteiro Velho Arruda

José de Torres, a biblioteca e espólio de Teófilo Braga, a biblioteca e arquivo de Natália Correia, o arquivo de Armando Cortes-Rodrigues, o arquivo do Coronel Chaves, a biblioteca de Antero de Quental, bem como a Anteriana do Dr. José Bruno Carreiro e outros. No concernente a obras raras, possui cinco incunábulos e coleções de livros dos séculos XVI, XVII e XVIII, alguns oriundos dos antigos conventos no arquipélago, primeiras edições e outras, sem esquecer a coleção camoniana. Destacam-se os manuscritos das "Saudades da Terra" de Gaspar Frutuoso, "Espelho Cristalino" de frei Diogo das Chagas, "Crónicas da Província de S. João Evangelista das Ilhas dos Açores" de frei Agostinho de Monte Alverne, apenas para citar os mais importantes do seu extenso acervo.

PT - As bibliotecas públicas e arquivos regionais têm por objetivo a promoção do livro e da leitura, tendo em conta os princípios expressos no Manifesto da UNESCO, garantindo assim o tratamento técnico dos documentos e a respetiva preservação, conservação e divulgação.

PT - Atualmente, esta biblioteca e arquivo depende da Secretaria Regional da Educação e Cultura, através da Direção Regional da Cultura.
