Geocache Description:

You are looking for a small cliplock box which is big enough for small trackables. The cache itself is not in the church grounds.

The church

The church of St Giles, founded in the 13th century, with its tall broach spire stands high above the village of Goodrich. It has fantastic views towards Coppett Hill.

It has a tall slim unbuttressed tower, topped by even taller stone spire and the bell openings are in the spire lowest stage.

Inside is an undivided chancel and nave, the latter having been extended, the older part being Early English. Note the 17th Century wooden panels as well as the 13th Century shrine with arcading around the sides. There is some lovely stained glass of the 15th Century in the East window of the North aisle depicting golden and white figures of angels complete with shields.

The church contains the tomb of the Countess of Salisbury, (an altar tomb on the left side of the altar, plain with no inscription or effigy), who was charged by Henry Bolingbroke with bringing up his son, later to become King Henry V, after the death of Mary de Bohun his first wife. The young boy was brought up at nearby Courtfield at Welsh Bicknor.
