Miejsce
Prochownia wchodzi w skład zabudowy fortu wzniesionego w XIX wieku w Warszawie. W okresie zaboru rosyjskiego nosił nazwę Fortu Siergieja i był jednym z sześciu, którymi uzupełniono lewobrzeżną część Cytadeli Aleksandrowskiej. Znajdowała się tu baszta artyleryjska. Miała formę niepełnego okręgu otoczonego fosą z galerią strzelecką na przeciwskarpie. W wyniku prac modernizacyjnych fort otoczono fosą z kojcem skarpowym. Kojec i przeciwskarpy połączono z wnętrzem fortu poternami, w których ulokowano schron artyleryjski i prochownię. W 1921 roku nadano mu imię gen. Michała Sokolnickiego, wybitnego dowódcy i inżyniera. W czasie powstania warszawskiego znajdował się w nim szpital.
W 1932 roku z inicjatywy Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Żoliborza na terenie dawnych fortyfikacji założony został park im. Stefana Żeromskiego. Projektantami utworzonego w stylu modernistycznym zieleńca byli Leon Danielewicz i Stanisław Zadora-Żeleński. Otacza ją okrągły trawnik i kuliste krzewy cisów. Cały park przecięty jest na dwie części wysokim wałem. W latach 2003-2005 przeprowadzona została gruntowna modernizacja parku. Zgodnie z jej założeniami przygotowano m.in. plac zabaw dla dzieci o powierzchni ponad 2 tys. mkw. W narożniku ulic Mickiewicza i Mierosławskiego utworzono kącik dla zakochanych z zabytkowym poidełkiem. Odrestaurowano fontannę i wyeksponowano dwa kamienie upamiętniające 5 i 75 rocznicę odzyskania niepodległości.

The note from the authors
The park is located in the very center of Żoliborz. It is a place where we like to come back and spend quality time together. At any time of the year atmosphere of the spot makes it magical. You can feel it especially in the long summer evenings. Meanwhile, it all started with a short walk. Thus park in the heart of the green area stole our hearts ;)
The place
The Old Powder Magazine is part of a fort built in the nineteenth century in Warsaw. During the Russian occupation it was called the Sergei Fort and was one of six, which supplemented the left-bank part of the Alexander Citadel. There was located an artillery bastion. It took the form of half-circle with a shooting gallery surrounded by a moat on a counterscarp. As a result of modernization the whole fort with artillery bunkers and powder magazines was surrounded by a moat. In 1921 was given the name of gene. Michael Sokolnicki, an outstanding leader and engineer. During the Warsaw Uprising there was located a hospital.
In 1932, on the initiative of the Society of Friends of Żoliborz in the former fortifications was established the Stefan Żeromski Park. Designers, Leon Danielewicz and Stanisław Zadora-Żeleński created it in the modernist style. Compositional layout is based on the preserved fragments of the fortifications. In the place, just behind the main entrance from Wilson Square was set a fountain with a statue of the "Alina - girl with a jug" sculpted by Henryk Kuna. It is surrounded by a circular lawn and spherical yew shrubs. The whole park is cut into two parts by a high embankment. In the years 2003-2005 was carried out modernization of the park. According to the assumptions, among others were prepared a playground with an area of over 2 thousand. sqm. In the corner of the streets Mickiewicz and Mierosławski was situated an old drinking fountain for all in love. The main fountain was restored and two stones commemorating the 5th and 75th anniversary of regaining independence were exposed.
