This memorial, is a 16ft high pedestal style memorial on which a six foot high soldier with rifle and bayonet in white marble sits on the top. It was unveiled on the 25th November 1922 in the presence of thousands and is to honour the 125 men of Silksworth and Tunstall who had died on the battlefields.
It was originally sited on Tunstall Village green but after the Second World War, it was decided to move the whole to a more central site and the Welfare Ground was chosen. A further 64 names needed to be added, including those who died as a result of enemy bombing. A further name was added in memory of a soldier who died in Bosnia in 1996
