About the area
The Forest of Søgård has approximately 153 hectares of forest.
It is divided into two parts because of the railway between Tinglev and Sønderborg cuts through the forest. The railway can be crossed at only one place, via a bridge (only for pedestrians), namely by Lundtoftvej, opposite P1.
The forest is very varied with lots of both conifers and deciduous trees.
The area is slightly undulating and there are multiple places with bog and forest lakes. The northern part of Søgård Forest adjacent to the Store Søgård Lake.
Back in the 80s, I remember the area as one of the places to go, if you would like to see our greatest woodpecker-species Black Woodpecker, - and it is still here. Black woodpecker has the size of a crow, so it's a very big woodpecker.
There are a lot of birds in the area, and during the deployment of this series, in early spring 2015, I can mention; Black Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Crane, Teal, Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Common Kingfisher (near Søgård Lake), Willow Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Crested Tit, Stock Dove, .... and a forest of other birds :)
About this series
The caches in this "Søgård Skov"-series, is placed because of a CITO event (CITO - ved Hostrup Sø - GC5MC4A), held the same day as the release of this cache.
The series is intended as a relatively easy beginner-series - only with a few challenges in terms of equipment and mobility. This series is suitable for a Sunday stroll with the dog, and you can benefit from taking the forest caches over 2 days, north and south of the railway.
Happy caching - micbladt c",)
