Geocache Description:

This regular sized cache can be reached by taking a long hike in Big Ridge State Park, or by boating on Norris Dam Reservoir. Either way, it will most likely be an all day trip. Plan accordingly and stop by the Big Ridge Ranger Station for more information on the trails and park services.

Sharp's Station, founded in the 1780's was one of the first two settlements west of the Appalachians, the other being James White Fort in Knoxville. Isn't it funny how that fort turned into a thriving metropolis, while almost nothing exists at this location? During the Norris Dam project in the 1930's all buildings and structures were taken down by the TVA. All that is left now is a plaque and few stone markers.

Hiking to Sharp's Station can be very rewarding but is a serious undertaking as a day hike. The trails can be rough and overgrown, and it is the most remote location that can be reached within the Park on trails. If you plan on hiking, make sure you research the trails at Big Ridge State park, or better yet, stop by the Ranger Station to talk to the Rangers about the trails and conditions. Know that you will be in a relatively remote location where getting help can be difficult. Let people know where you are going. If you are boating, follow all boating rules for the reservoir.
