Geocache Description:

A mistery cache to learn and know more about the Sardinian folklore

The carnival in Sardinia has many faces, masks and several costumes and is the only calendar festival not connected to the Catholic liturgy. It uses the forms of theatrical fiction (masks, disguises, satire, grotesque pantomime) to reverse forms, roles and hierarchies of the normal daily. The ancient one is the "Carnevale barbaricino" which, with ancestral, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic masks, the garments of goat skins, woolen and cowbells, evokes mysterious rites, propitiatory dances and close relationship between man and animal. The most famous carnivals are: "Sa Sartiglia" (in Oristano), during which the riders have to insert a metal star during the race, hope of good harvest, "The Carnival in Mamoiada", "Sa Carrela 'Nanti" where riders show their value, courage and skill, "the Carnival of Tempio" with the puppet of King George tried and burned in the streets, "The Carnival of Fonni" characterized by the ancient masks"sos de S'Urthu Buttudos" representing the daily struggle of man against the elements of nature, etc...

To solve the mystery you have to recognize the masks on the ten pictures and count the number of letters (conjunctions too but without articles), add and subtract the number for each letter.
