This is part of Ellie's Wanderings circular walk. Great views across Welwyn, especially on a clear bright day. Take care along this short stretch of road, not busy but you never know when a horse may appear.
Lots of new homes being built on the site of the estate known as The Frythe. The home of the Wilsheres from 16th century for several centuries. The present gothic revival mansion was built in 1846 and the Wilsheres continued to live there until 1934. In 1939 it was commandeered by the British Military Intelligence and in WW2 it became a secret British Special Operations Executive factory known as Station IX making commando equipment which included military vehicles and equipment, explosives and technical sabotage, biological and chemical warfare and camouflage - was this a forerunner to geocaching?! Go through the gate and follow the footpath sign to Ayot St Peter. You are looking for a small containercarefully placed.
