Geocache Description:

Tenth Annual Mid-Winter GeoCaching Get-Together! This will follow the same theme as the previous events. An event in the middle of the Adirondack Mountains, in the middle of the Winter where geocachers from all over the North East get together to geocache, visit with geocaching friends, make new friends, share stories, trade geocoins and signature items, and just plain ol' have fun in the snow.

February can be a month of much snow. If you have snowshoes or cross-country skies - do bring them (Not needed - but will help). Long Lake is also a great place to snowmobile. Many of the caches will be accessible via a snowmobile. If you own a snowmobile, do bring it.

Snowshoeing

As in the past, many geocachers choose to come up on the Friday before the event and some choose to stay until the Sunday after the event. For accommodation info, www.mylonglake.com . For questions about available seasonal lodging in Long Lake please call, 518-624-3077. If you make a reservation, please post on the forums and the event page where you will be staying (Hotel/Motel) so others who are interested in knowing will know. This is officially a one day event. You are not required to get accommodations. Please feel free to come up Saturday morning the day of the event and stay for just the day if you like.

Geocaching Cube Contest

Geocaching Cube Contest

This year’s contest is the Geocaching Cube contest. All cubes remain the property of the contestant.

You will need to create a cube, with a geocaching theme, of any size (tiny, small, medium, large, humongous), out of any material (paper, cardboard, plastic, wood, metal, etc.), using any types of technology as long as it’s all part of the cube and doesn't take away from its geometric shape (e.g., you can’t have a chord extending from it, or a battery pack attached to its side, or a light bulb protruding from any of its sides). However, these can all be internal. The key here is that it must maintain a cube's geometric shape and geocaching theme.

You can create something very basic or something highly technical. It is your choice. The sky is the limit. I have lots of ideas, and I have tried to write this up as to not give any of them away. However, here are a few examples I am sure everyone would think of right away:

1.) Create a cube that has geocaching pictures on each of its sides
2.) Create a cube that plays sounds when each side is touched
3.) Create a cube that displays pictures and plays sounds

NOTE: The cube can take on another shape if it has functionality as part of its geocaching theme (e.g., press a side and a Jumping Signal the Frog pops out). However, in its resting state, it must maintain the cube geometric shape. The cube does not have to be functional. It can be merely decorative. There will be three winners (1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd place). The person's cube with the most points wins 1st Place. The next highest number of votes wins 2nd place, and so on. Geocachers can submit as many Cube entries as they like, to be judged!

Although we do have door prizes and contest prizes, if you have something you would like to donate as a door prize or as a contest prize, please bring it with you to registration at the day of the event. The more prizes, the better :) Thank you!
