About Village Sign Caches

This cache belongs to the Village Sign Series, a series of caches based on ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (generally on the village green!).

The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably started in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!

More information, bookmarks and statistics can be found at the Village Signs Website

If anybody would like to expand the Village Sign Series, please do.
I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.villagesignseries.co.uk
so we can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.

Kettlestone is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It covers an area of 7.55 km2 (2.92 sq mi) and had a population of 177 in 85 households at the 2001 census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of North Norfolk.

It is situated about 5 miles (8.0 km) to the east of the market town of Fakenham. The village has several farms and a small church. Also included in the parish is Pensthorpe home of a Nature Reserve. The village is broadly aligned east to west about a single street with houses mainly to the north.

Thanks to Karen for the information on the falcon of Kettlestone: "The village sign at Kettlestone, depicts a Gyrfalcon. In the middle ages only the King could own such a bird and a certain Sir Thomas de Hauville who was the lord of the manor and the keeper of the kings Falcons resided here. It is said he used the Church tower at Kettlestone to observe the Performance of his Falcons"

Due to the lack of good hiding places near GZ this is a multi.
