it: Sede della Compagnia del Gesù fin dal 1602, la chiesa di San Bartolomeo risulta essere una delle più grandi dell’intero territorio modenese. L’attuale tempio fu eretto su disegno del gesuita Padre Giorgio Soldati da Lugano nel luogo ove precedentemente sorgeva l’antica chiesa parrocchiale dedicata al medesimo santo. Demolito l’angusto e obsoleto edificio, nel 1607 i Gesuiti iniziarono i lavori per la costruzione della nuova chiesa, terminati definitivamente, compresa l’edificazione della torre.
Il mercato di Via Albinelli venne inaugurato il 28 ottobre 1931, il commercio al minuto abbandonò così Piazza Grande in cui si era tenuto per secoli, i venditori che vi si installarono, già abituali frequentatori di Piazza Grande, divennero commercianti stabili, distinguendosi definitivamente dalla categoria degli ambulanti. Il progetto del mercato coperto mirava infatti a decongestionare il centro cittadino, ingombro di banchi quasi tutti i giorni della settimana, a tutelare, proteggere dalle intemperie e regolarizzare i venditori abitudinari della Piazza, nonché a disincentivare il commercio ambulante, ritenuto socialmente pericoloso e difficile da controllare
I lavori di edificazione del Mercato partirono nel 1929 e furono eseguiti con una grande considerazione per le questioni igieniche: banchi di marmo rosa per i venditori di pesce, tubature che fornissero acqua corrente a tutti i banchi, un sistema di deflusso dell'acqua per la pulizia del pavimento. Un peso particolare fu dato anche all'aspetto estetico, come rivelano le eleganti volute in ferro lavorato che collegano le colonne portanti, nonché, al centro del mercato, la bellissima fontana della "fanciullina con canestro di fiori", opera dello scultore e pittore savignanese Giuseppe Graziosi.
