The Beef portion of the program is lunch at Longhorn Steakhouse (963 E. Fort Union Blvd, Midvale) at 11am-12pm. The beef is available in many forms, burger or steak, whichever you choose to purchase. You may want to get lots of fluids to wash it down with too. Everyone is welcome to lunch even you don't participate in the activities following lunch.
After this iron and fluid heavy lunch those who are interested can head down the street to donate blood. The donation center is conveniently located just down the road from the steakhouse. After 48 years I finally worked up the nerve to give blood and had an extremely positive experience. (You can read my story here.) It's time to go back and I thought I'd bring some friends.
If you want to give blood with the group, please make an appointment between 12pm & 2pm. As of Oct 30 there are 16 appointments available for Dec 6 between those times. If we need more, my contact will be happy to set them up. Just let me know. She told me they start filling up about two weeks out so schedule early. You can make an appointment on the American Red Cross Donation Center's website, by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767) (be sure to specify the Salt Lake Donation Center), or by downloading the American Red Cross Blood Donor app for your phone.
For those of you who have always wanted to give blood but found as many excuses as I did, here's your chance to do it with a little moral support. I know there are many out there who would very much like to give blood but can't. Please join us for lunch to support those who plan to donate.
Let's all wear a combination of geocaching and/or blood donation gear. In other words wear your geocaching t-shirt and pin on those gallon pins.
Please include the number in your party in your "will attend" log if not everyone in your group has their own account to post a "will attend". I want to be sure Longhorn has enough seats for us.
