Ole Lex is back and he wanted to show you a little history around his stomping grounds. You wont need a ladder for this tour and the journey wont be for the faint of hearts, but as with his last cache, being with a group of geocachers would provide more enjoyment.
You'll want a motorized boat, a kayak would be a work out (if you put in at the suggested boat ramp) however, with good seasonal planing (when the water is low) there is the hiking around the shoreline option. A hiking stick for 'poking' will also be of assistance as the cache is completely covered.
You'll start by navigating to the old Philpot Ferry crossing. (posted coordinates) Before the lake was built, this ferry was a passage across the Chattahoochee. You will then be instructed to find an object at an old home site. After the old home site, you'll visit Lex's hid out and then off you go to the ammo can.
Please replace each stage just like you found it. (out of sight and covered) This will assist with longevity, since the area is used by hunters and teens. (be cautious during hunting seasons)
The only special tool needed is a good bright flash light. There is cell service on the lake. There is also information on the lid of the ammo can which is needed so you can find Superman, the bonus cache. (see related web page) Also, if you're traversing from ATL, you might want to look into GC1JTZ7.
A Note For All Geocachers
Are you new to geocaching or have a question about geocaching? Check out the official Geocaching Guide. Please log your experience using the most appropriate log type. If the geocache is not up to the standard, note the issue(s) within your online log and I'll provide the maintenance. If the geocache couldn't be found, a 'DNF' would be appropriate and please don't do a throw down. (it's bad form to log a "found it" for a container you've hidden) ->Don't forget to bring some SWAG for trading.
