Geocache Description:

This is a short multi, starting at a little house, tucked away, just off the busy Howth Road, on Foxes Lane.

The little house down the lane

The house at Stage 1 is a good example of a style of dwelling house that once was common in Ireland. There are still many examples of them to be found throughout the island of Ireland, but few so close to Dublin city centre. Specific details of the house have been not included to add to the delight of discovery.

Foxhall House

The use of 'Fox' on place names is prevalent in Raheny. On the other side of the Howth Road is the Foxfield estate; old maps show a house in the area called Foxfield House. Near the location of GZ, but not the house referred to above, was Foxhall House. Built in the eighteenth century, it later formed the basis of the Shieling Hotel. The car park of the Shieling featured in the film adaptation of Roddy Doyle's novel "The Snapper". The hotel is no longer in business and the house has been subsumed into a contemporary apartment building.

At Stage 1 of this short multi, you'll be standing in front of the 'little house down the lane'.  After admiring its distinctive features, take note of a three digit number. Call this number AAB and the cache can be found at location N 53 22.8((A*5)-1) W 006 09.6((B*2)+4).

The 'little house down the lane' is private property, so please respect the privacy of the people who live there. The cache is accessible from the public footpath, out of sight of the 'little house', so there is no need to trespass on private property.

There is a DART station in Raheny, a 15/20 minute walk from here.  Stop #595 is the nearest stop for buses heading into the City Centre, stop #539 for buses heading towards Howth.  The routes using these stops include 31, 31A, 31B & 32, but you should check with Dublin Bus for up-to-date details.
