We have Motorway Mayhem. We have A-Road Anarchy (cos there aren’t many Motorways in Wales!). But what about public transport users?
SideTracked Caches are intended to provide quick Cache-and-dashes at Train Stations.
It is hoped this idea will spread across the country in the same way as the MMs….but if hiding one PLEASE BE SENSIBLE and remember that in this day and age, public transport is under greater scrutiny than ever before, so, although these caches should be quick and easy grabs, PLEASE don’t place a Cache where it could cause alarm!!!
About Wokingham Station
When we first moved to Wokingham, we lived in one of the terraced railway cottages directly across Oxford Road from the station entrance. This was extremely convenient, if a little noisy at times; and we are very fond of the station and use it very frequently. The cache is a short walk from Wokingham station, right next to the railway bridge from where you get a terrific view of the tracks.
Up until 1849 there was a stage-coach service which ran between London and Reading and stopped at Wokingham. After this time the Reading to Guildford railway opened and passengers were able to travel to London via Reading. In 1856 the Staines to Reading line was completed affording a more direct service.
The Grade II Listed footbridge was built in 1886 following two accidents at the level crossing in Barkham Road, including an incident where a young girl was knocked down by a goods train.
In October 2013 (a year before the placing of this cache), a £6m refurbishment to the station building was completed.
Please replace this cache carefully so that it remains as invisible as it was when you found it!
N.B. Access via the churchyard is now possible once again.
