Placed at the top of a particularly steep and atmospheric stretch of the Dartmoor Way, after rising up narrow and ancient lanes, past faded glories and a rich history of mining in the nearby Wray mines. Pepperdon Down - a smallish area of open moorland, borders this - and Pepperdon Farm was probably the funder of these gateways on what is now a public road.
The Dartmoor Way turns sharp right here, and after 250 yards, turns left along another pretty lane towards the resorvoirs.
There is space to pull in for a car or two at GZ, and even if you're not a biker, it's a relatively straightforward park and grab.
The Dartmoor Way passes this cache, a 95 mile circular ride around Dartmoor.
