Geocache Description:

This Wherigo is based on the popular detective board game Cluedo (or Clue in the USA). Of course, it being a Wherigo, you walk around Holland Park instead of moving counters around a board. Your objective is to solve Dr. Black's murder case before your opponent does.


Who Killed Dr. Black?

Dr. Black was a wealthy eccentric who lived alone in a mansion in the park. One day, his dead body was discovered inside his house and it was obvious he had been murdered elsewhere and moved back into the mansion. At the time it was estimated the murder took place, there were only 6 people who were in the vicinity. Who did it, with what weapon and where was the original murder location? Only you, aspiring CLUE-GO detective, can attempt to answer these questions.

Gameplay Basics
 

CLUE-GO is essentially a card game. Now with patented Steampunk technology, everyone with a Wherigo player can play CLUE-GO in the park against an opponent! There are cards representing the 6 suspects, 6 possible murder weapons and 7 possible murder locations. Three cards (one of each) are chosen at random and they are the murderer, murder weapon and murder location cards. The rest of the cards are then shuffled and distributed evenly between you and your opponent. Your aim is to determine, through the process of elimination, which cards your opponent has and ultimately, which are the 'murder cards'.

As in the board game, you have to walk from location to location where there are special Steampunk Card Requester machines installed. These machines facilitate easy communication with your opponent. When you arrive at the Park Cafe, for example, you can request a particular murder suspect, murder weapon card and the Park Cafe location card from your opponent using the buttons on the Card Requester machine. Your opponent only has to show you ONE of the cards you have asked for. After that, it is your opponent's turn to ask you for a card. While you can ask for any suspect or weapon card in any room, you can only ask for the location card of the particular location you are standing in. As the 'murder cards' chosen are random each time you play the cartridge, it is not always necessary to visit ALL the locations before you can solve the case. Therefore, some games will be easier to solve than others and can even be completed in under 30 minutes if you are lucky.

The Suspects

These 6 people were in the vicinity of the park at the time it was suggested that Dr. Black's murder took place. Only ONE of them is guilty, can you find out which one? Could it be elderly Miss Blanc, his trusted cook who prepared all his meals for him? Or his niece Charmaine Cerise, whose fast-living and high-flying was beginning to wear out and deeply annoy her aged uncle? Or even his golfing partner, dashing Dr. Grey, who had to put up with Dr. Black's incessant cheating? And what implements did they use, a humble computer mouse cord to strangle him or even radioactive tea, the favoured assassination method of foreign spies?

Starting CLUE-GO

Once the CLUE-GO robot has introduced you to Mr Marple, press Start Game only once (there may be a delay of up to 20 seconds while the cards are shuffled). The robot will shuffle and distribute the cards to you and your opponent. Your cards (8 in total) will appear in your inventory. If you have more than 8 cards in your inventory, please re-start the cartridge. There is a Solve Case command available on every card. Only use this until you are ready to declare all 3 'murder' cards.

Introducing Your Opponent, Mr. Marple!

You will play CLUE-GO against Mr Marple. He is none other than a certain Miss Marple's long-estranged brother and although he lacks her famous sleuthing ability, he certainly makes up for it in his enthusiasm! He is in a secret, remote location far away and you can communicate with him via the Card Requester machines in each designated location, and there are video screens and cameras installed to allow you to 'see' each other. Luckily for you, Mr. Marple is not a very astute player and has been known to lose to even mediocre CLUE-GO players. However don't let this allow you to become too complacent, because Mr. Marple has been known to win a game or two if his opponent falls asleep. Don't let this happen to you! 

Using the Card Requester machines

These machines were constructed with the finest cogs and wheels, guaranteed to withstand anything that London's inclement climate might force them to endure! These marvels of engineering come with video screens and cameras that allow you to communicate with Mr. Marple remotely. They come equipped with buttons that allow you to request cards from your opponent.

You can select from a list of which suspects and weapon cards to request from Mr. Marple. You can only request the location of where the Card Requester machine happens to be. Remember that if Mr. Marple doesn't have a card, you can ask for another card, but if he shows you a card, your turn is over. You must then press the Complete Turn button to allow Mister Marple his turn. It is essential that you do this, it will power down the machine. If you forget to do this and move on to another location, the machine there will not respond unless you press the Complete Turn button there. These machines are sensitive contraptions and no more than one machine at a time can be powered up. So always remember to press Complete Turn before moving on!

These Card Requester machines can also only be used a few times after which they will stop functioning for the purposes of CLUE-GO and do other frivolous things instead. So use each turn wisely!

Winning the CLUE-GO Game

When you have discovered the 3 'murder' cards, you can select the Solve Case option on any of the cards in your possession. If you get all 3 murder cards correct, then congratulations, you have WON the CLUE-GO game! However if you get even one murder card wrong, you will lose the game and Mr. Marple wins by default.

Upon winning the game, the coordinates of the physical geocache will be revealed (as well as the completion code for logging the cartridge on wherigo.com). You must sign the log in the geocache to log your find on geocaching.com. As the murder cards chosen are random each time a cartridge is played, you are free to relate your entire gameplay experience in your log, but please do not include any photos, spoilers or other hints about the final geocache location.

Accessibility

The CLUE-GO game can be completed comfortably within 30-40 mins although occasionally it may take slightly longer. It is wheelchair-accessible. Please note that this Wherigo is not available 24/7, please check the opening times of Holland Park before setting out. The final cache is available 24/7. The nearest tube station is High Street Kensington.
