History- St.Piran’s Church Carharrack is a small mission Church built in 1884 at the height of the mining era when it was believed by Church authorities that every parish should have a church. For many years St.Piran’s was a mission church to the Parish of Gwennap, the ancient Parish church of the area. Inside was a folding screen that allowed the church to be separated from a meeting room - it was here that Miss Johns' School was located in the early 1900s.
Of interest is the small wooden spire containing a bell - restored in the mid 1990s - and also the picturesque stained glass windows. Before the church was built, Anglican worship took place at Ting Tang Count House on the edge of Carharrack.
Today- The interior of St.Piran’s is plain, simple and very peaceful. There are many churches in the area dedicated to St.Piran the patron saint of tin miners and today the ethos of this little mission church remains dignified and simple. The Church is in good order and it’s small but dedicated congregation meets regularly for worship. St.Piran’s Church is typical of all Mission Churches built at this time and is popular for weddings and baptisms.
