Details:
A geocache located at the Maindample Community Park. It was established 2014 by the Victorian State Government, the Mansfield Shire, the Mansfield & District Community Bank and the Maindample community.
Additional Information:
Maindample is located in the Mansfield Shire with a population of around 200 people. It is 8 km from Bonnie Doon, 14 km from Mansfield, 48 km from Alexandra and 79 km from Eildon on the Maroondah Highway.
History:
Originally named the 'Maindample Settlement', Maindample was named after the 'Maindample Pastoral Run' located near the twin peaks known as the Paps - located 5 km to the east. During the gold rush of the mid 1850s Maindample had around eight businesses. From 1868 to 1870 the Maindample Police Camp was manned by the renowned Mounted Constable - Michael Kennedy. Constable Kennedy was well respected locally, with the township of Bonnie Doon writing a letter praising his character and integrity. On 26 October 1878 Kennedy was fatally shot by bushranger Ned Kelly at Stringy Bark Creek. Maindample was surveyed as a township 1875. By 1900 it had shrunk to around ten houses and three businesses.

Australia's first GeoTour is held in one of Australia's most feature rich locations. Lake Eildon, located in the state of Victoria, is known for its fishing, water based activities and beautiful bushland surroundings and natural features. It's also known for its arts, crafts, eateries and townships.
