This is a virtual cache filled with a tremendous amount of US Pioneer history. There are two ways to log a visit, and many things to see here.
The coordinates above are for the parking area.
To log your visit,
you must email me the answers to one or two questions. (Don't post the answers here, even if encrypted.)
Quick but steep option: Go to N42* 29.642' W107 08.033' and find an inscription on the rock by a pioneer with the last name Snow (This is one of my ancestors by the way.) What is that man's first initial? And what is the year of his visit to this rock?
Longer but flatter (type 1) walking option: Go to N42* 29.458' W107* 07.797' and find the inscription for H L Chapin. What is the last name of J W that is above and slightly to the right of Chapin?
Standing close to the rock, we found that the gps readings varied a bit more than normal. But the coordinates given here will get you within 30 or 40 feet and you can easily find the points of interest mentioned.
Feel free to log it both ways. Also I have included other points of interest we noted as we walked clockwise around the base of the rock from the option one coordinates:
N42* 29.640' W107 08.038' is another inscription in this part of the rock that is far from most of the others. (Pioneers passed to the south, between the rock and the river.)
N42* 29.694' W107 08.007' Some interesting bronze plaques. Some notable people here.
N42* 29.588' W107 07.813' Monuments dedicated to the pioneers by boy scout troops near and far.
N42* 29.499' W107 07.855' Additional names in this area.
I hope you enjoy your visit and find this as interesting as I do. It took us about 90 minutes to walk entirely around the rock. But you can easily log this cache, by one of the two options, in 30 minutes.
