Geocache Description:

The cache IS at the posted coordinates, but before you may log this as found you will need to meet certain requirements.

I have seen parts of this idea used before at a challenge cache near Auburn, CA called "POLYPODY's Lonely Cache Challenge" and the rest is from my twisted mind. This cache is inspired by all the "abandoned" caches and trackables out there. These caches and trackables have not been "abandoned" by their owners...they have been "abandoned" by us, the geocaching community.

An "abandoned cache" is one that has not been found in at least 1 year. An "abandoned trackable" is a coin or travel bug that has not been moved in at least 1 year. If it has been discovered within one year but has not been moved it can still be used in your list.

To qualify for this cache you will need to have found or moved one century (100 years) worth of caches and trackables. No more than 75 qualifying caches or trackables can be used to make your list, and no more than 25% of your list can be trackables. That means you will need to go after some caches or travel bugs that have been unfound or unmoved for 2 or more years. The trick here is to find the caches and trackables that have been un-loved the longest.

There is no restrictions on how short your list can be. If you can do this by finding 10 caches that have not been found in 10 years...more power to you. Any days over a year count. You can qualify by using whole years (the easy - hard way), or you can qualify by using days (the hard - easy way) If you go by years you will need 100 years of Abandonment. If you go by days you will need 36,502 days. That number includes two leap year days. I recon that this cache will not be logged very often...but for those of you that are able to qualify...thanks a bunch for seeking out those lonely caches!

A couple of things to note: Generally the caches that have a chance of being an "abandoned cache" are way out there. They often require a very long hike, or you may need to go somewhere or do something that is out of your comfort zone. Some of them will be difficult puzzles and other's may be multi-caches. Creating your list will be one of the hardest parts of the challenge unless you start from scratch, but if you look for your list using some of the ideas above it will help you identify caches or trackables that might qualify Please attach a picture or post a note of your qualifying caches/trackables. See example.
