Geocache Description:

The Riffster Clan has discovered that nothing beats a good paddling after a long weekend in the woods, dodging bears and hunting ammo cans.  Who's with me?

The actual event will be held at a remote stretch of beach, along the Junier Springs Run, at the posted coords.  The hours for the event are from 8:00am to 5:00pm, though I certainly won't be there that long.  My plan is to arrive bright & early at Juniper Springs State Park, pay my nominal entrance fee, ($7.00?), drop my boat, pay for a shuttle trip, (another $7.00?), drive to the take out coords, then ride back on the shuttle and splash my 'yak.  I'll shoot for getting to the event coords by 3:00pm, though I make no promises.

Once there, we'll schmooze, nibble some noms, and tell some lies about all the ammo cans we found.

Total distance is about 8 miles.  This river is rated as moderate, in that there are certain hazards present which might prove problematic for new paddlers.  Challenging obstructions and large alligators, (which have at least one recent human death attributed to them), make this a paddle where you need to keep your wits about you.  Disposable containers are forbidden on the run, and the staff conduct frequent boat checks.  If you are bringing snaks and drinks, (and you should have lots of both!), put them in something not disposable.  Single serving water bottles, granola bar wrappers, etc, will get thrown away before you ever get on the water.

Warnings aside, this is, by far, my favorite paddle in Florida.  The scenery and nature are abundant and beautiful.  As long as you don't get killed or seriously injured, you will cherish this memory for a lifetime.  You should bring a pokey stick, should you choose to exit your boat to hunt caches.  Long sleeve shirts, hats, sunscreen, a PFD, a whistle and dry boxes should all be required gear.  Any gear you actually like should be firmly tethered, as there is a high likelihood that your boat will become inverted at some point.

See y'all there!
