Geocache Description:

Cache is not at the posted Coords.  But you should go there anyways and take a walk into the building and see the mural.

I have placed a lot of caches now on Treasure Island with a few different themes.  I recently realized that it was time to place a cache on the island that focused on the cool history of the island.  I lived out here for a couple years and learned a lot about the history of the island during those couple years.  The  island was orignally built in 1936-7 for the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition, the World's Fair.  During WWII and the start of the cold war it was a Naval base.  In the 1980's, it began being used in the film industry.  There are numerous plans for the future of the island so it will be interesting to see what becomes of the island.  I was planning on having this cache focused on the whole history of the island but there is too much stuff for one cache.  So this cache will focus just on the 1939 World's Fair.  Maybe I will place a couple more to fill out the history of the Isalnd.

Let's start by actually seeing what the island was like during the the 1939 Exposition.  There is two pieces of information you will need from the video later on.

A:  Pacifica is a massive sculpture figure ___ feet high.

B: When on the Gay Way, beware of the ____ foot monsters!

Wow...what an amazing place.  It is hard to imagine as you walk around the island today that this is the same island.  If I was to spend a day on at the fair, this would be my plan on how to get the most of day back in 1939.

I would start a the North side of the island.  I would begin my day, as I begin most days, with breakfest at the Doughnut & Coffee Resturant.  After a nice meal, I would stroll over to the Redwood Empire Counties of California exhibit and perhaps buy a post card.

Next I would visit the Western Pine Assocations Model Home, also known as the Sunshine house.  (This house actually still exists today.  Crazy story that I just discovered working on this cache.  SFGate Story.)

Next I would take a walk through the exhibit on Madera county.  For Lunch, I think the Seafood Grotto sounds like an excellent choice.  I bet in 1939 they even were eating fish caught out of the bay.

Time to head west.  Next I would visit the Save-the-Redwood Grove and then move onto the Ecuador exhibit where I would look for a stamp for my postcard.

Next up would be the exhibit for Tuolumne county exhibit.  As the day is winding down, I would have to see what the Christian Science Activities was all about.

I would end the day with a visit to the Fresno county display just to see exactly what was so special about Fresno.

To get the final coords, you will need to visit all the locations and then subtract the (A+20) from the North coords and B from the West coords.

The final is located near one of the few buildings left from the 1939 fair.  There are a few sculptures in front of the building left over from the fair as well.  Enjoy!
