Geocache Description:

This is a short multi cache which takes you to the attractive Norman church of St Nicholas in Little Bowden. The final cache is just a short walk away.

LITTLE BOWDEN is a parish and village on the river Welland, adjacent to Market Harborough, 11 miles north-west from Kettering, 16 north-west from Northampton, in the union and county court district of Market Harborough, petty sessional division of Market Harborough, rural deanery of Rothwell (second portion), archdeaconry of Northampton and diocese of Peterborough. Under the provisions of the “Local Government Act, 1888,” the whole of this parish has been transferred from Northamptonshire to this county, except for Parliamentary purposes, and is within the district controlled by the Market Harborough Urban District Council. The church of St. Nicholas is an edifice of stone, in the Early English and Decorated styles, consisting of chancel, clerestoried nave, north aisle, south porch and an embattled wooden tower, 35 feet in height, at the west end, containing 3 bells: there are memorial windows to Admiral Sir Robert Barlow G.C.B. d. May, 1843, and to the Rev. Thomas William Barlow, vicar of Halberton, Devon.

To work out the coordinates for the final you will need to walk around the church and gather some information
Everything can be seen from the paths - so no need to walk on the grass! If you start by the south door and walk clockwise around the church the questions should come in order.

Q1 - How many stone busts/heads are there surrounding the large window to the right of the south side door = A
Q2 - What is the last word carved into the stone above the south door? If it's 'Amen' B=3, 'Praise' B=4 or 'Lord' B=5
Q3 - Find the year of 'A M D G' = 19C8?
Q4 - The new extension was built in 200D? (written in stone)
Q5 - What motif is on the top of the downpipes (hoppers) of the guttering? If it's a Lion E=1, cross E=4 or rose E=6
Q6 - What shape is one of the yews on the north side of the church clipped to look like? If it's a peacock F=8, teapot F=5 or train F=1
Q7- Find Vere Caldwell, what regiment of the light infantry was he in? G0th

Now put those numbers into this equation

N52 2D.B(G-A)E

W000 5B.ECF
