Wind Mountain showing the ascent route:
There is only one reasonable route to the summit of Wind Mountain that does not involve technical climbing. Park at the Ribbon Creek parking area and begin on the Ribbon Creek Trail. If the trail is washed out, go south across a bridge to the Terrace trail, turn right onto the Kovach trail, then turn right onto the Link trail. You will cross a bridge and end up on the new Ribbon Creek Trail. Follow this trail until the posted waypoint at which time you turn right onto the Memorial Lakes trail. Follow the Memorial Lakes trail to the next waypoint, a trail which leads up the ridge to the scenic alpine valley. Once at the base of Wind Mountain, follow scree, scramble up moderate/difficult terrain, and scramble on slabs to the summit.
Refer to Andrew Nugara's "More Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies" for more detailed route directions. Be sure to bring a GPX route along with you to ensure you do not get off trail. There are some on the internet, I can provide mine as well if you email me.
NOTE: I rated this a 5* terrain not only because of the distance and elevation gain required, but also because I highly recommend climbing shoes for the tricky slabs near the summit. It makes a big difference!
As always, come prepared, bring a friend and know your route. Be sure to bring the spoiler pictures with you to ensure that you find the cache. Enjoy this rarely visited peak!
