A Verona ci sono molti portoni ad arco che immettono in palazzi, corti e cortili interni. In questi "portoni" si trovano delle particolari pietre a cuneo inserite proprio nel centro dell’arco e che ne costituiscono la parte fondamentale per il sostegno dell’intero portale. Tale pietra è anche detta “chiave d’arco” o "chiave di volta” ed è spesso arricchita da immagini allegoriche o riferite al teatro greco o romano. Curioso e simpatico è il nome veronese che viene dato a queste pietre: “teste da porton” il cui termine è stato poi usato per descrivere quelle persone che sono testone, … “dure de comprendonio”.

In Verona, there are many big arched front doors that lead into palaces, courts and courtyards. In these "arched gates" there are particular wedge stones inserted in the centre of the arch and which form the key part for the support of the entire gate. These stones are also known as "keystones" and are often embellished with allegorical images or related to Greek or Roman theatre.
Curious and fun is the name given to these stones in Verona, "testa da porton" (word for word: head for front door) whose term was later used to describe stubborn, bullheaded persons.
Consider this multi/mystery as an opportunity to have a walk through the streets of Verona, maybe not the most touristy, but not less impressive. Take time, it is not a fast cache....
