Geocache Description:

At the time of placing, i received permission from family to place this cache here. You will need to go through a gate and then close it after you are done. This is are patented mining claim. This is grandfathered as they no longer allow patented mining claims. So this is an historic area. The terrain to cache is pretty rough but you can still manage with a truck with 4 wheel drive.

i am proud to say that this mine that lies here is "are" family "patented" mining "property". we also own lots more mines scattered around mountain city. this is just one of  many that we own around here. the land that we own around the mines is also quite vast. this mine here is called the jenny mine. the mines are not currently running, however we are still posting the proof of ownership/labor claims at each of the mining claims, which states that we still intend to keep the mines and land, and are still doing the assessment work. we have to pay 8,000 per year just to hold onto the dam land and mines. an amount that is significantly increasing each year. the bull lip management and the national fork circus has tried to steal are land and mining claims for years now. one of the ways they are attempting to do this, is by raising the price each year untill it bankrupts us. not to mention the claim jumpers that have tried to jump are claims in the past.  the pantented mines cost quite less then the unpantented mines do per year. the pantented mines were grandfathered, since they were pantented before the policy changed where you could not pantent mining claims anymore. have you ever heard of what happened to the little man? it's what happened to the nearby ghost town of mountain city.

summary of the jenny mine and cache:

this mine is the only mine left that has not caved in fully. you can still go in the tunnel about 100 feet. the old building that helped in getting the ore out is in a state of disrepair but still standing firmly. this was running in the early 1900's untill the silver prices went way down. what really shut down the mining though was an inspector that came through and found something to be unsafe. therefore the mining had to stop untill a future date. however that is not the full story of why the mine stopped. rio tinto across to the west found that silver and gold vains, lead to are property. when they found this, they wanted to buy the land and mines from us, but are family would not sell it to them. so rio tinto hired a man to keep breaking are equipment. the costs added up and are family could not afford to keep fixing the equipment. unfortanately because of this, 200 feet away from one of the richest vains and silver in the world, the mine stopped running. despite this, they were never able to take are mining claims and property luckily.

the cache:

there is an old road going up the hill to are old mine. you can go up the road to the mine in a vehicle, and find the cache. we drive up there all the time in are 4 wheel drive truck. we call it sage brush road, however you might call it the scariest road in america. the cache is a nice regular cache stuffed with streamers, parashutes and of course a log and a pen. unfortanately, i was unable to stock it with mining themed swag. a strenuous hike up the hill offers a nice view of the valley and mountain city below. i am the one who also placed the other 3 caches that are in mountain city near here. i am trying to have more people visit mountain city, and hopefully one day this area might become like the extraterrestrial highway south west of here, where the town of rachel nevada was totally revived. please feel free to explore and take pictures. put this mine and others around here on waymarking.com if you can. this is a nice place to visit, as well as the other places i have caches at around here. have fun and enjoy!
